NOW ENROLLING

Be a Voice for Change

The roots of Community Song Circles run deep and wide, stemming from a vast oral tradition and serving as a collective expression of empowerment and protest to uplift communities, express discontent and fight against oppression. The American Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s, for instance, drew inspiration in large part from the music of the Black Church, creating a modality of vocal expression that remains an influential and inspirational force. Today, community singing is a growing movement that brings people of all ideologies, ages and abilities together, often serving as a backdrop for activating communities around racial and social justice, LGBTQ+A awareness and climate change. Please contact Dodie to find out more about Vox For Change initiatives and opportunities to get involved.

Who is community singing for?

A CALL TO ACTION
We are a group of people of color from the Community Singing movement who, after a variety of encounters with racism at singing gatherings, are asking the question: Who is Community Singing for? If Community Singing is to be for everyone, we believe it must explicitly identify as an anti-racist, anti-oppression movement. We offer this challenge with love.
